Why Buying Beef in Bulk From a Ranch Is Better Than the Grocery Store
Most people have never thought twice about where their grocery store beef comes from. They grab a package off the shelf, check the price, and move on.
And then they try buying directly from a ranch, and everything changes.
Here's why buying beef in bulk from a family ranch is better than anything you'll find at the grocery store and why once you've done it, it's hard to go back.

You Know Exactly Where It Came From
This sounds simple, but it's actually rare. Most commercial ground beef is sourced from multiple animals, sometimes dozens, combined into one package during processing. The USDA has found that some packages of commercial ground beef contain DNA from more than 100 individual animals. That's not a safety issue. It's a transparency issue.
When you buy a beef share from Grassy Flat Ranch, every package comes from one animal. One animal that was raised on our family ranch in Southern Utah on open pasture with no added hormones and no antibiotics. You can ask us anything about it, and we can answer.
You Pay the Same Price for Ribeyes as Ground Beef
This is the part that surprises people most. When you buy a beef share, you pay one flat rate per pound across every cut. That means you're paying the same price per pound for tenderloin filets and ribeye steaks as you are for ground beef.
At the grocery store, you'd pay a significant premium for the premium cuts. With a beef share, the pricing doesn't change based on which cuts you're getting. You get everything at the same rate because you're buying the whole animal rather than individual cuts.
The Beef Is Actually Better
Grass-finished beef tastes different from conventional beef, and it tastes better! The flavor is richer, cleaner, and more complex because it comes from cattle that ate nothing but grass their entire lives. No grain finishing. No feedlot diet designed to add fat quickly. Just cattle raised on open land the way cattle are supposed to be raised.
Every animal at Grassy Flat Ranch is also dry-aged for 14 days before processing. Most commercial beef skips this step entirely because it takes time and space and cuts into margins. Dry aging concentrates the natural flavor and improves the texture in a way that's immediately noticeable when you cook it.
Your Freezer Becomes Your Best Asset
When your freezer is stocked with a beef share, you stop making impulse purchases at the grocery store, and you stop paying per-cut prices for something that isn't as good. You pull what you need when you need it and everything you eat for the next several months comes from a source you trust.
A quarter share is 90 pounds. A half share is 180 pounds. A whole beef is 360 pounds. Depending on how often your family eats beef, that can last anywhere from a few months to a full year.
You're Supporting Something Worth Supporting
Our family has been ranching this land in Southern Utah since 1875. Four generations of the same family doing the same work because they believe it matters. When you buy a beef share from us you're not just buying beef. You're supporting a family ranch that has been feeding people from this land for over 145 years.
That's not something you can say about the package at the grocery store.
