Bone Broth

Homemade bone broth is easy to make and has a long list of health benefits.  Bone broth is rich in vitamins and minerals like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium.  It helps in joint health and healthy skin because of its high amounts of collagen.  Bone broth can aid in boosting gut health and immune function with its healthy amino acids.  Aside from its many health benefits bone broth also adds a rich hearty flavor to pot roasts, stews, and many other recipes.

  • 2 - pkgs Grassy Flat Ranch Soup Bones (5-6 Bones)
  • 2-3 Carrots diced
  • 2-3 Celery Sticks diced
  • 1 Onion quartered
  • 2-3 Sprigs Rosemary (or other herbs of your choice)
  • 4-6 Cloves Garlic
  • 2 Teaspoon Apple Cider Vinegar (helps to extract nutrients)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Peppercorns
  • Water (enough to cover bones in crock pot)

Bake soup bones in oven at 425° for 30 minutes on a cookie sheet,  Take out bones and flip then put back into the oven for another 30 minutes. Remove soup bones from oven and place in crock pot with carrots, celery, rosemary, garlic, onion, vinegar, salt, peppercorn, and water.

Cook 12-24 hours on low. Remove soup bones and larger pieces of vegetables with a slotted spoon.  Strain bone broth.

Transfer bone broth into glass jars to store in fridge for 4-5 days. Or you can pour bone broth into silicone freezer trays (these are my favorite souper cubes) and freeze up to 6 months.  These silicone trays freeze the broth into one cup servings making it perfect for adding to your favorite recipe.

Once the bone broth has cooled a layer of tallow will float to the surface and solidify, this will help protect your broth from being exposed to air. When ready to use, heat the bone broth and mix in the tallow to add a rich deep taste to your broth or if you prefer you can just remove it.
